All painting is theft. A steal from reality. A rational reinterpretation of light, based on memories and tainted by imagination. There is too much information in the human figure to be summarized in a portrait. A painter’s job is to edit this information, to discriminate. The parts symbolize the whole, which is never conclusive. A painting is soulless, but it promotes synergies between the painter and the observer. A silent dialogue that makes art possible.
